International Day of Women and Girls in Science 2025 Home Today, 11 February 2025, is the 10th International Day of Women and Girls in Science. More than 60% of the scientists on the staff of the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) are women, including IARC Director Dr Elisabete Weiderpass and the heads of three IARC flagship publications series: the World Health Organization Classification of Tumours series, the IARC Monographs on the Identification of Carcinogenic Hazards to Humans series, and the IARC Handbooks of Cancer Prevention series.
A core part of IARC’s mission is capacity-building of cancer researchers worldwide, including through various fellowships and courses. Currently, 65% of the Early Career and Visiting Scientists at IARC are women. Through these initiatives, IARC has contributed to training and mentoring thousands of women in cancer research, enabling women and everyone interested in cancer prevention to progress in their chosen professions.
IARC takes the opportunity of the International Day of Women and Girls in Science to thank women for their inestimable contribution to cancer research and to encourage women to pursue careers in cancer research and other scientific fields.
