IARC and partners train cervical cancer screening specialists in Uzbekistan

The International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), in collaboration with the Ministry of Health of Uzbekistan, the World Health Organization (WHO), and the Republican Specialized Scientific and Practical Medical Center for Maternal and Child Health, conducted a training programme on colposcopy and the management of cervical precancerous lesions in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, on 1–5 December 2025. The training was organized within the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB)-funded project “Support to the Development of Oncology Services in the Republic of Uzbekistan – Phase II”.

The goal of the initiative is to strengthen national capacity in cervical cancer prevention and early detection. A total of 22 gynaecologists and oncology gynaecologists participated in the training, gaining essential theoretical knowledge and hands-on experience to improve the quality of cervical cancer screening, colposcopy, and precancer management services in the country as they move towards human papillomavirus (HPV) detection-based screening.

This collaborative effort underscores the joint commitment of IARC and national partners to advancing global health priorities and supporting the implementation of effective strategies for cervical cancer elimination.
