IARC and WHO Regional Office for Europe co-host webinar series on Reduction of Alcohol Consumption and Cancer Prevention

Researchers from the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) and the World Health Organization (WHO) Regional Office for Europe are collaborating to host a series of webinars on the topic of Reduction of Alcohol Consumption and Cancer Prevention, based on the most recent volumes of the IARC Handbooks of Cancer Prevention series: Volume 20A, on Reduction or Cessation of Alcoholic Beverage Consumption, and the forthcoming Volume 20B, on Alcohol Policies.

To promote and disseminate the key findings of these volumes, this joint webinar series from the WHO Regional Office for Europe and IARC aims to (i) present IARC, and specifically the IARC Handbooks of Cancer Prevention; (ii) present the main conclusions of IARC Handbooks Volumes 20A and 20B; (iii) translate scientific evidence into actionable insights for policy-makers; and (iv) build engagement and momentum ahead of the official launch of Volume 20B.

The webinars will present the evidence on alcoholic beverage consumption and cancer risk, the evidence on alcohol reduction or cessation to reduce alcohol-related cancer risk, and the major policy levers for reducing alcohol consumption at the population level. The series is aimed primarily at policy-makers, public health professionals, prevention specialists, health-care providers, representatives of civil society organizations, youth advocates, researchers (including early career researchers), and academics.

The webinar schedule is as follows:
