Dr Mary Luz Rol, a scientist in the Early Detection, Prevention, and Infections Branch of the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), will present a seminar as part of the Division of Cancer Prevention (DCP) Early Career Scientist Spotlight Research Seminar Series, hosted by the United States National Cancer Institute (NCI), on Monday 16 June 2025 at 5:00 pm CEST (11:00 am EDT).
The presentation will be about phase one of the EASTER project. The goal of this project is to develop and validate an affordable, artificial intelligence (AI)-driven dual system for cervical cancer screening, triage, and treatment. Phase one of the project, which was launched in Harare, Zimbabwe, enrolled 1100 women aged 25–49 years by December 2024. These women then provided self-collected vaginal and urine samples for testing.
The NCI DCP Early Career Scientist Spotlight Research Seminar Series was created to highlight early career scientists who were nominated and selected for their work that advances research within the areas supported by the DCP. These areas of research include cancer early detection biomarker development and screening, intervention development for cancer prevention, precision cancer prevention, and symptom science and management. This specific seminar will spotlight Dr Rol’s research as an early career scientist.
