Lung cancer Tobacco

Banning the sale of tobacco to the young generation could prevent 1.2 million lung cancer deaths by 2095

This infographic shows the results of a new modelling study led by IARC that used population-level data to evaluate the impact of eliminating tobacco with the tobacco-free generation initiative. The study showed that prohibiting the sale of tobacco to people born between 2006 and 2010 could prevent 1.2 million lung cancer deaths by 2095.

The infographic shows the number of lung cancer deaths expected to occur among the 2006–2010 birth cohort and the number that could be prevented if tobacco smoking were eliminated. Results are shown by sex, worldwide and by World Bank income group (i.e. high-income, upper-middle-income, lower-middle-income, and low-income).
