Launch of online learning programme on “Improving the Quality of Cancer Screening”

The International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) is pleased to announce the launch of a new freely accessible and modular resource on cancer screening and early diagnosis. This self-paced online learning programme was developed by the IARC Screening Group in the framework of the Cancer Screening in Five Continents (CanScreen5) project.

The course was developed with the support of the American Cancer Society, the Medical Research Council (United Kingdom), the Research Council of Norway, and the Centre for Global Health Inequalities Research (CHAIN) of Norway. The open access learning programme covers evidence-based knowledge and skills on “Improving the Quality of Cancer Screening” through a variety of educational resources.

Capacity-building is the cornerstone of the development and maintenance of the CanScreen5 global network, which aims in the short term to enhance the knowledge of researchers and public health officers on concepts pertaining to the evaluation and quality of screening programmes, and in the longer term to encourage and support countries to provide and report audited data describing their cancer screening programmes and use those data for effective programme evaluation, quality improvement, and population-based implementation science research. The new CanScreen5 online learning programme will expedite and facilitate the achievement of this goal.
