Meeting with a delegation from St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital

The International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) will welcome a delegation from St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital (in Memphis, Tennessee, USA), led by Dr Carlos Rodriguez-Galindo, the Director of St. Jude Global, on 30 September 2024. During the two-day meeting, the leaders and researchers from both institutions will discuss the achievements and further development of the bilateral collaboration Targeting Childhood Cancer through the Global Initiative for Cancer Registry Development (ChildGICR), which was established in 2020.

The overall goal of this partnership is to support the expansion of population-based cancer registration to improve the availability and quality of data on childhood cancer, which are scarce in low- and middle-income countries. ChildGICR thus builds international and interdisciplinary collaboration in support of the World Health Organization (WHO) Global Initiative for Childhood Cancer.

During the meeting, the partners will discuss current activities and set priorities for the forthcoming years in the areas of direct technical support and collaboration with target countries, capacity-building, and implementation research.
